Matt Brown Joins Calvary University Athletics

Kansas City, Mo. — Dr. Alexander Granados, president of Calvary University, along with athletic director Matt Sanders and athletic staff, are pleased to announce that Matt Brown has been hired as the new Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Calvary University. Coach Brown comes to Calvary with a plethora of coaching and playing experience, from the NCAA DI level to middle and high school teams.
“We could not be more excited and grateful to hire someone like Coach Matt Brown,” said Calvary University athletic director Matt Sanders. “He comes to us with great faith and the desire to disciple and lead our student athletes on the men’s basketball team. He has an incredible wealth of experience at the highest levels of college athletics. We think he will do amazing things here in his time at Calvary. We are truly grateful the Lord sent him to us.”
Coach Matt was born in Fort Lee, Virginia, and grew up in a military family. As a result, he had the experience of living in many different places, cultures, and environments. Currently, he and his family live in the Sedalia, Missouri area. Coach Brown is married to his wife Nikki of twenty-seven years, and he has seven children – five boys and two girls – and one granddaughter!
Brown graduated from Shippenburg University with a degree in history, having played two seasons of college basketball for them and two seasons at Northern Kentucky. As a coach, he went to the Elite 8 in 2005 with West Virginia University and the Sweet 16 in 2006 for the NCAA DI tournament.
Not only has Coach Brown coached all over the nation and at all levels, but Brown is also a local coach, having coached in a variety of schools and colleges familiar to us in Kansas City, including Northland Christian School and University of Missouri – Kansas City. Most recently he has spent time as the head coach at Wentworth Military Academy and State Fair Community College. “I am excited to be a part of Calvary University and what it stands for as a Christian university. The university stands on the morals and values of what being a Christian really is. I am excited for the future of the program,” said Coach Matt. “I am looking forward to meeting the guys on the basketball team and the rest of the athletic staff. I want to learn how to help everyone so that I can give them the support they need to make their programs successful.”
