Associate Pastor Position Description

Position Summary: The purpose of the Associate Pastor is to serve the church body through equipping, overseeing and shepherding. This position will work with and report to the lead pastor. The Associate Pastor will become an Elder and a member of the Church Council unless reasons to delay that appointment are mutually agreed upon in the hiring process. The position calls for a person who is spiritually and theologically mature, skilled in mentoring, pastoral care, team-building, and strongly committed to gospel ministry in the context of a local church. While this job includes joining the pastoral team in performing all duties as assigned, specific and essential responsibilities include (% of time expected):
Family Ministry (70%) Lead and equip Bethel to responsibly partner with and resource families in both integrated and age specific ministries to achieve our mission. This includes two areas of responsibility:
1. Oversee and develop Bethel’s youth ministry and youth ministry team. This includes being responsible for teaching, planning and coordinating the youth ministry both by personal involvement as well as developing youth ministry team in these roles.
2. Oversee and develop Bethel’s children’s ministries. This includes responsibility for mobilizing, coaching and supervision of ministry leaders and volunteers.
Pastoral Ministry (30%) Lead and equip Bethel in overseeing worship and music ministry in partnership with an Elder and Music Team. Other assignments given by the Elders needing pastoral oversight and energy and generally matching the Associate Pastor’s gifts and passions may include: 1) teaching and preaching, 2) reaching and assimilating people into our church community, and 3) renovating and reinforcing small group ministry (Life Groups).

You should have… Sufficient theological training and/or ministry experience • A conviction that God is sovereign over the salvation of people and be agreement with our Statement of Faith (www.bethelbiblechurch.org) • Excellent people skills • Ability to effectively teach God’s Word • Strong desire and ability to work as a team with other leaders and pastors • Music training/ability to lead music team and congregational singing.
