Emily Wirth Senior Recital
Calvary University invites you to the Senior Recital of Emily Wirth on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at 3:00 pm. Performed in Calvary’s own Liberty Chapel, you will enjoy an afternoon of beautiful vocal music as Emily performs a variety of musical selections.
Emily currently resides in Grandview, Missouri, with her husband, Stephen, and son, Grayson. She is majoring in Music Performance and Pedagogy–Vocal and is eagerly anticipating graduation in May 2018. Emily enjoys singing, playing the piano, and writing music. She plans to put these skills to use professionally by teaching voice and piano lessons, performing, and composing music.
During her time at Calvary, Emily has enjoyed many semesters in the Calvary Chorale. She also participated in the small music ensemble His Song and spent three summers touring with Calvary’s traveling ensemble Evidence.
Emily currently works as a receptionist at a local retirement home. When she is not working or studying, Emily enjoys spending time with her family, cleaning, organizing, decorating, baking, and dancing.
Calvary University hosts Grace University Chorale
Calvary University will host the Grace University Chorale at their chapel service on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. We are excited to welcome the GU Chorale for their final tour before Grace University closes after their Commencement ceremony in May.
The Grace Chorale and Chamber Singers from Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska, will sing in chapel at Calvary University, Kansas City, MO, on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:00 AM. The Chorale, a long-standing tradition at Grace, is a 33 member auditioned choir under the direction of Dr. Greg Zielke. The Chamber Singers are a select group of musicians from within the Chorale. These groups strive for choral excellence and ministry through music while exploring the vast scope of sacred choral literature.
Calvary invites you to join us at this chapel service to experience the wonderful music from Grace University!
J-Term Enrollment Highest in Years
Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
Fifty-five students have participated in this week’s J-Term classes. That is the highest J-Term enrollment in many years. While many of the students came back to campus to attend these classes, some viewed the sessions online. J-Term is beneficial for students looking to lighten their course load in the future by taking one class this week before all the others start. The flexibility of online participation is an added bonus! The courses offered this week were Bible Study Methods/Hermeneutics, Counseling Cross-Culturally, American Military History, Music Technology, Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, and Conflict Resolution.

Bethany Franklin Master Recital
Calvary University Graduate Student, Bethany Franklin, invites you to attend her Master Recital on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary University’s Liberty Chapel, 15790 Elmwood Ave, Kansas City, MO 64147. This is a FREE recital.
Bethany Franklin is a Graduate Student at Calvary pursuing her Master’s of Music degree. She graduated from Calvary University with a degree in Advanced Biblical Studies in 2015. Prior to attending Calvary, she graduated from Cornerstone Bible Institute in 2013 with a diploma in Bible and Theology and an emphasis in Counseling. She has been playing piano for nineteen years and currently, Bethany is employed by the Liberty Public School System and is accompanying choirs of middle school singers! She also accompanies for the William Baker Festival Singers, a local Kansas City Choir.
Each Graduate Student needs to perform a final recital as part of their degree requirements; however, even though it is required, it is one of the more fun things Music Graduates get to do for their degree process. Come hear Bethany as she plays various selections of classical music. Mezzo-soprano Un Chong Christopher will be joining her later in the recital to perform German, French, and English art songs. These selections will delight and entertain you, as well as, give insight to the hard work and talent of the music program here at Calvary University.
Music Department Presents Sounds of Christmas
Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
Last Friday evening Calvary’s Music Department presented a concert entitled The Sounds of Christmas. We heard several selections from the Chorale as well as a few soloists. Students Cherrish Palmer, Jonathan Van Pelt, Christopher Stolberg, and Bethany Franklin played instrumental pieces, and six students performed as part of the orchestra. The Men’s Chorale is comprised of staff, faculty, and students, and they sang a couple numbers. Scripture readings were interspersed throughout the program, and the event ended with some congregational Christmas carols. All in all, it was a nice way to start the month of December – focusing on the true “reason for the season.”
