Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
What a beautiful day God gave us for making campus improvements! Thursday was the Spring All-Calvary Work Day, and, as they did in the fall, students, faculty, and staff spent the morning on projects that will beautify and improve our surroundings. Groups painted in the gym, outside the education building, in the Clark Academic Center, and in the Admissions Visitor Room. Other groups cleaned in the theatre department, Madison Hall, and the library. Some of the most visible work was done near Madison Hall where workers planted shrubs and did other landscaping jobs. We are so thankful for the excellent weather and all of the hard work that was done to accomplish these tasks.

Philippians 3:7-10
7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

This past Saturday our Student Services department hosted a one-day Ladies Conference for Calvary students, faculty, and staff. Julie Ganschow, director of Reigning Grace Counseling Center, was the speaker for the day. She taught about having a confident heart in a wavering culture with a focus on a woman’s biblical role. The ladies in attendance also enjoyed food, games, music, and craft demonstrations. Overall, it was a terrific day of edification and fellowship.

Julie Ganschow encouraged the ladies to “follow hard after God.”

Dr. Cone hosted a question and answer time with Dr. Patrick Belvill on Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Belvill is the president of Tyndale Theological Seminary and Biblical Institute, a professor of Bible and Theology, and a pastor at Tyndale Bible Church. He answered questions from faculty about trends and issues in Christian education including accreditation and plagiarism. On Wednesday, Dr. Belvill spoke in Chapel about having the proper mindset for the journey.

I attended Calvary’s production of Beauty and the Beast last Saturday with high expectations, and I was not disappointed. What a delightful show! I have, of course, seen the animated Disney version, and I’ve even seen the stage version at a community theatre. However, there is something special about seeing students you know completely transform into characters from a beloved story. The cast and crew did a marvelous job and entertained large crowds for each performance of the first weekend. If you haven’t seen it yet, there are still a few tickets remaining for some shows on this, the final, weekend. As of this writing, Friday is sold out, but tickets will be available at the door for Saturday and Sunday’s performances.

Spring Break is almost here which means the 2017 Chorale Tour kicks off soon. Twenty-two students in the Chorale and six Praise Band members will be performing in the concerts. Each production will have an evangelical theme with a clear presentation of the gospel. The tour will go through Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska, with a majority of the time spent in Utah. There is still an opening for another church along the route. If you are interested, please contact Teresa Purinton, Music Department Office Assistant, at 816-425-6180 for additional information. Please be in prayer for the health and safety of the group while they travel, and click here to see the complete schedule.
