Pray for Students over Christmas Break

Pray for Students over Christmas Break

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

As we reach the end of this year, please remember the Calvary students in your prayers.  Some of them have final exams, papers, and projects to finish.  Others may be done with classwork, but now they are traveling home for Christmas break.  Pray for spiritual and physical protection.  Intercede especially for those students who are going home to unsaved family and friends.  Pray that God would give them opportunities to share about the Savior and that they would put into practice the lessons they have learned at Calvary.  Also pray for the new students who will be joining the Calvary family in January that God would supply their every need.

Bethany Franklin Master Recital

Bethany Franklin Master Recital

Calvary University Graduate Student, Bethany Franklin, invites you to attend her Master Recital on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary University’s Liberty Chapel, 15790 Elmwood Ave, Kansas City, MO 64147.  This is a FREE recital.
Bethany Franklin is a Graduate Student at Calvary pursuing her Master’s of Music degree. She graduated from Calvary University with a degree in Advanced Biblical Studies in 2015. Prior to attending Calvary, she graduated from Cornerstone Bible Institute in 2013 with a diploma in Bible and Theology and an emphasis in Counseling.  She has been playing piano for nineteen years and currently, Bethany is employed by the Liberty Public School System and is accompanying choirs of middle school singers!  She also accompanies for the William Baker Festival Singers, a local Kansas City Choir.
Each Graduate Student needs to perform a final recital as part of their degree requirements; however, even though it is required, it is one of the more fun things Music Graduates get to do for their degree process.  Come hear Bethany as she plays various selections of classical music.  Mezzo-soprano Un Chong Christopher will be joining her later in the recital to perform German, French, and English art songs. These selections will delight and entertain you, as well as, give insight to the hard work and talent of the music program here at Calvary University.

Music Department Presents Sounds of Christmas

Music Department Presents Sounds of Christmas

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

Last Friday evening Calvary’s Music Department presented a concert entitled The Sounds of Christmas.  We heard several selections from the Chorale as well as a few soloists.  Students Cherrish Palmer, Jonathan Van Pelt, Christopher Stolberg, and Bethany Franklin played instrumental pieces, and six students performed as part of the orchestra.  The Men’s Chorale is comprised of staff, faculty, and students, and they sang a couple numbers.  Scripture readings were interspersed throughout the program, and the event ended with some congregational Christmas carols.  All in all, it was a nice way to start the month of December – focusing on the true “reason for the season.”

Masterworks Chorus Presents “Elijah”

Masterworks Chorus Presents “Elijah”

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

Last Friday evening the Calvary Masterworks Chorus performed Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn.  A large crowd of family and friends filled Blue River Bible Church to enjoy the fruit of many weeks of practice by the vocalists and instrumentalists.  The chorus was comprised of Calvary students, faculty, staff, alumni, and singers from the local, Christian community.  The oratorio featured 47 movements following Elijah’s story in I Kings and incorporating other scriptures as well.  We were pleased to have Joshua Lawlor, David Adams, Un Chong Christopher, and Jacqueline Venable Simmons as soloists for the performance.  Jeremy Schell, our Chorale Director, was the director and conductor of the chorus and orchestra.
