The Calvary Warriors basketball teams spent almost all of January playing road games. Now they get to play their final regular season games at home! On Tuesday, February 6, both teams play host to Central Christian College of the Bible. Then the final home games of the season will be on February 9 versus Barclay College.

Paige Specht brings the ball up the court.
The Lady Warriors will try to defeat CCCB after losing a close game to the Saints back in December. They will look for a similar result against Barclay after leaving Haviland with a win on January 26.

Isaiah Miller scores for the Warriors.
The men’s team lost a close game to Manhattan Christian on Tuesday and will look to get back in the win column after having the weekend off from game action. Injuries have plagued the Warriors this season as two players tore anterior cruciate ligaments.
Don’t miss your last chances to come to the Pyramid Athletic Center to cheer on the teams!

The theme of Calvary’s Conference on Global Engagement (formerly called Missions Emphasis Week) was Priorities: Engaging Gospel-Deprived Places. Dr. David Brown from Biblical Ministries Worldwide was the main session speaker, and his topics included Marketplace Ministry, Gospel Wildfires, Dialogue with Doubt, and the Threefold Cord.

Dr. David Brown was the main session speaker.
The schedule for the conference was a bit different this year with regular classes canceled on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Both days included two main sessions, prayer time, three seminar slots, and evening activities.

Alumna Sarah Chadbourn presented a seminar on Wednesday.
The entire Langmade Room was filled with displays from the various mission organizations and missionaries represented at the conference.

Students spoke with mission representatives by their display tables.
Also new this year was an art contest and auction where students submitted drawings, paintings, or photographs that fit the missions theme. The pieces were judged, given awards, and auctioned off to raise money for students going on summer missions trips.

These are the pieces students created for the art contest and auction.
Another highlight of the week was a song sung in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili! As always this was a week of making or reestablishing connections with God’s servants around the globe and being challenged in our own commitment to spreading the Gospel.

Winter at Calvary can be lots of fun! When it snows, there are good sledding hills close by, and, of course, a few snowball fights. Snowmen often appear on campus after a snowstorm. In fact, I have fond memories of helping build a huge one during my junior year at Calvary. This week the students went ice skating at Crown Center which has become an annual winter tradition.

However, winter also has a downside. Ice is common in Kansas City, and this winter we have had several days of cold temperatures with wind chills below zero. Snow may be fun to play in, but driving in it is not, especially if students are not accustomed to it. Please pray for our students’ safety this winter. This is also the time of year when colds and flu tend to hit the Calvary family. Pray that our students, faculty, and staff will be restored to good health or avoid the “bug” all together.
Job 37:6 For to the snow He says, “Fall on the earth,” likewise to the downpour, His mighty downpour.

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
Calvary has dreamed of a new dining hall for years now. On Monday, January 8, 2018, those dreams came to fruition!
Building Acquired
On September 8, 2016, Calvary acquired the building which was formerly Turner’s German-American Hall. It is located just south of Calvary’s softball field near Eagle’s Landing Golf Course. The main goal was to remodel the space and move the dining hall to this new location.

Joe’s Kitchen Opens for Business
While there are still a few tasks to accomplish before the remodeling project can be called “complete,” we were able to pass inspections and receive permission to begin serving meals when the students returned to campus for the new semester. On Wednesday, we had Chapel in the new dining hall and took time to praise and thank God for this building. Randy Grimm announced that the kitchen will be named “Joe’s Kitchen” in honor of Joe Dapra, who is faithfully serving as Director of Food Services for the twentieth school year. We look forward to many more chocolate chip cookies, eggs made to order, and Taco Tuesdays in this new facility!

Since the equipment for the serving line has not arrived yet, students served themselves on Wednesday.
You Can Help
Besides the modern kitchen and spacious eating area, we are also excited about the potential for hosting special events in this building. This year’s Alumni Phone-a-thon will fund the purchase of a sound system, multimedia screen, and projector to be used at these events. If you are interested in contributing to this project, click here.
