Warriors Improve to 6-1

KANSAS CITY, MO –    The Calvary University Warriors picked up two much-needed conference victories this week at home, defeating Ozark Christian 3-1 on Tuesday, and then going on to beat Barclay College 3-2 on Saturday.

The Warriors displayed a well-balanced attack in both matches, averaging 24.4% hitting against Ozark and 21.9% against Barclay.  Defensively, Calvary did a nice job as well, posting 56 digs, and ten blocks in the matches.

“The team did a nice job meshing on the court in some key sets,” said Coach Regier.  “We came from behind and were able to finish against some good volleyball teams.”

The Warriors are now 3-1 in the Midwest Christian College Conference, and 6-1 overall.

Calvary defeats Baptist Bible College

KANSAS CITY, MO – Calvary volleyball improved to 2-0 with a 3-0 win over Baptist Bible College at home Tuesday night.  Scores were 25-16, 26-24, 25-21.

The first set was a great one for the Warriors as everything was clicking on all cylinders.  Calvary was passing and serving well to take the early one set lead.  After falling behind 13-18 in set two, the Warriors settled into a groove and started making runs that eventually turned into a 26-24 victory.  The final set looked to be all Warriors, who started strong, but the Patriots drew even and made it interesting with six straight points before Calvary was able to finish it off.

“The girls played well tonight against a solid BBC team,” said Head Coach Jeanette Regier. “It was a team effort. We did not break down in the 2nd when they took the lead, which is a goal we always strive for.”  Tasha Krahn led the attack with seven kills.  Kaela Gingrich and Lisa Rensberger each added five kills. Paige Specht contributed 19 digs.  Calvary is back in action next week when they go on the road to Ottawa University.  The Patriots drop to 0-1.

MOBERLY, MO – August 26, 2016 – The Calvary University Warriors Volleyball team defeated the Central Christian College of the Bible Saints in their season opener, winning the match in three sets  25-12, 25-8, 25-13.

The first set began evenly with the Saints taking an early 4-1 lead, and the Warriors fighting back to tie the game at 8-8.  Calvary went on to take a 16-11 lead forcing a CCCB timeout.   After the timeout, the Warriors, led by stellar serving from freshman Kaela Gingrich went on a 9-1 run to win the set 25-12.

The Warriors continued their momentum in the second set with a quick 8-1 run.  They did not look back after the quick start and won 25-8.  Tasha Krahn was key for the Warriors in this second set with four kills.

Central Christian fought valiantly in the third set, competing with the Warriors early on, but Calvary’s serve receive, anchored by Paige Specht helped them to a 17-7 lead that forced another CCCB timeout.  After the break, there was little the Saints could do to stop the Warriors attack, and Calvary was able to achieve a 25-13 victory.  Calvary is in action at home next Tuesday night vs. Baptist Bible College at 6 pm.
