Warriors Fall in First Round of Conference Tournament

JOPLIN, MO – October 26, 2017 – A valiant second-half effort by the Calvary men’s soccer team was not enough to get the win over Barclay College, falling 2-1 in the first round of the Midwest Christian College Conference tournament.

In their third meeting of the season, the Bears were the first to score off a bullet to the top right corner in the 13th minute of the game. Keeping the momentum, Barclay was able to control the ball until they scored another goal in the 25th minute, extending their lead 2-0. After the second goal, the Warriors started turning the game around, creating several scoring opportunities, and maintain control of the ball for nearly the rest of the half, though still unable to get anything in the net.

In the final 45 minutes, the game was almost entirely controlled by the Warriors. Though Barclay had 9 shots in the second half, the Warriors totaled 17. The Warrior’s lone goal came in the 87th minute from an unassisted tap-in goal by Jordan McFarland.

The Warriors (2-9-2) will face Ozark Christian College on Friday in the fifth-place game of the MCCC Tournament. The Warriors will face the Ambassadors for the second time this season. In their previous match, the Warriors won 3-2 at home.

Stats

KANSAS CITY, MO – October 14, 2017 – A furious three set comeback rewarded the Calvary Volleyball team (9-5, 3-4) with a five set win over conference opponent Barclay College on Senior night (24-26, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-13).

The Warriors built on their four game win streak with Saturday’s win, also beating the Bears for the first time this season after a 3-1 set loss on September 22. Hitting .148, the Warriors improved in their hitting percentage, but service errors continued to be an issue with 17 service errors despite the win.

Set 1: Neither team led by more than three points the entire set. The Warriors got out to an early lead, but halfway through the set, Barclay took over, taking the lead for the rest of the set and earning the win 26-24. The Warriors hit .200 and totaled 15 kills compared to the Bear’s .118, however, attacking errors proved to be the difference.

Set 2: The second set was another tight match. Statistically, the teams flipped with Barclay hitting .200 and the Warriors a mere .088 in the attack. Following an 11-11 tie, the Bears went on an 11-4 run giving them the lead 22-15. A small surge brought the warriors back within 4, but it wasn’t enough to get the lead, losing 20-25.

Set 3: After losing the first two sets, the Warriors started playing their game and never looked back. After an 8-2 run to start the set for Calvary, the Bears regained their footing and played even with the Warriors, getting within 2 points late in the set, but 8 errors and a -.026 hitting percentage for the Bears gave Calvary the advantage and the win 25-21.

Set 4: Both teams totaled a .100 hitting percentage in the fourth set, but several kills by Kaela Gingrich and Tasha Krahn boosted the Warriors past the bears. A six-point lead halfway through the set forced a Barclay timeout, after which they went on a 5-0 run putting them within one point. The Warriors did not let anything come easy for the Bears, staying on top for the rest of the match, and clutching the win 25-23.

Set 5: After a 7-3 start for the Bears, chances for a win looked slim for Calvary. After a Warrior timeout, Calvary battled back to gain the lead 10-9 forcing a Barclay timeout. A 5-3 run for the Warriors sealed the match and the game for the warriors 15-13.

The Warriors will face no. 10 Manhattan Christian College on October 17 in Manhattan, KS. The Thunder are 10-7 and 4-1 in conference play, currently sitting at 2nd place in the Midwest Christian College Conference. On September 26, the Thunder defeated the Warriors in three sets (26-24, 25-18, 25-13).

BELTON, MO – September 26, 2017 – The high-powered no. 10 Manhattan Christian College men’s soccer team (3-4-0, 3-0-0 MCCC) proved to be too much for the Calvary Warriors (0-5-1, 0-2-1 MCCC), defeating them 6-1 after a 4-0 halftime lead.

The Thunder were the first to strike, scoring a solo goal in the 4th minute. Two more goals were added by the Thunder before the Warriors had their first shot though they were able to create several opportunities. One more goal in the 42nd minute left the Warriors in a difficult position down 4-0 at halftime.

The second half showed improvement for the Warriors as they were able to get in great positions to score, but couldn’t get many shots off. The defense showed great progress as well, keeping the Thunder from scoring nearly the entire half. The Warrior’s lone goal came late in the game from a Mark Rodenberg PK in the 84th minute. A goal in the 87th minute and a PK in the 88th minute sealed the game for the Thunder.

The Warriors had 11 total shots and 6 on goal. Samuel Her and Mark Rodenberg each had four shots.

The Warrior’s next match will be September 29 at Faith Baptist Bible College. The Eagles are currently 3-1-1, and 0-0-1 in conference play, with a 5-0 win over Emmaus Bible College and a 1-1 draw with Ozark Christian College.

Lady Warriors Win First Conference Game

Lady Warriors Win First Conference Game

JOPLIN, MO – September 19, 2017 – Slow starts and a set 3 loss did not faze the Calvary Women’s Volleyball team (5-1, 1-0 MCCC) as they won their fifth game of the season over Ozark Christian College in four sets: 25-13, 25-11, 17-25, 25-21.

Even with the slow starts, the first two sets were all Calvary. In the first set, the Lady Warriors had to battle back from an early 7-2 deficit, going on a 23-6 run to finish the set. Set 2 was much the same story, though Ozark and Calvary played nearly even until two back to back kills by senior Tasha Krahn spurred the Lady Warriors on to a 17-5 run, and a set win 25-11.

Set 3 was a different story. Hitting a season low -.128 percentage, Calvary struggled to get much of anything over the net. Taking advantage of this, Ozark played very well, not allowing the Warriors to lead at any point in the match and winning 25-17.

In the fourth set, the Lady Warriors regained their bearings, though now against a much more confident Lady Ambassadors team. After a quick 6-1 lead for Calvary, Ozark fought back to get within 3, and never fell behind by more than four points the entire match.

For the set, the Lady Warriors totaled only a .134 hitting percentage, though they had 48 kills and 58 digs for the game. Individually for the Warriors, Tasha Krahn had 20 kills, hitting .308 and 4 solo blocks. Alyssa Splitter had 8 kills, 15 assists, and 6 digs.

The Lady Warriors next matchup will be September 22 at Barclay College. The Lady Bears (2-8, 0-1 MCCC) last played Emmaus Bible College, losing in three sets.
