Calvary University Volleyball Captures Road Scrimmage Win

Calvary University Volleyball Captures Road Scrimmage Win

The Lady Warriors started their pre-season in strong form as they captured a 3-1 victory over Dayspring Bible College on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Illinois.  “I was extremely proud of our team today,” Warriors Head Coach Ashley Spicer said. “We didn’t give up and scored some important points at critical times.”

The Warriors rode the offensive prowess of junior Kaela Gingrich who led at the net all day.  The Warriors jumped out to an early lead in the opening set and had a good rhythm as a team. Still, the Eagles remained within striking distance as the sets went on.  Thanks to a high serving percentage, and servers that challenged the Eagle receivers impressively the Warriors were able to close out the match winning 25-10, 25-18, 19-25, 25-15.

With the win, the Warriors are ready to begin the regular season. The team will be back in action on Sep 7,8 as a part of a tip-off tournament at North Central University.

The season got underway on Friday for the Calvary men’s soccer team as they traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska for a matchup with Union College. Despite several bright spots throughout the game, the Warriors found themselves on the losing end of a 0-7 score.

In the opening minutes of the match, the two teams went back and forth with both trying to establish the pace of play.  Union scored their first goal two minutes in with a terrific shot from the 18’ mark.  They added to this score with a second tally in the 19th minute of the first half.

As the second half began, Union put the game out of reach four quick goals in 20 minutes to go up 0-6.  Still, Calvary was able to execute good combinations in play and had several good chances on frame, but the match ended with the Warriors falling 0-7.

The Warriors welcome Nebraska Christian to Kansas City on Monday, August 27.

#WarriorImpact – A Chance For You to Share How God is Working in Your Life

#WarriorImpact – A Chance For You to Share How God is Working in Your Life

Written to all Calvary Warriors:

1 John 4:14 says, “We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.”  This verse describes the student-athletes who have and who will compete in the future for Calvary University.  We’ve always desired and expected God to work mightily in the lives of each of our players and coaches as they are challenged to be transformed by Him, to compete for Him, and to submit to Him.  I’ve watched Calvary students leave their collegiate careers behind and dive into various ministries across the world.  It has been a privilege to watch these stories unfold for the past 25 years, and I believe they are worth telling.  I think they are stories about changing the world.  We were thinking about these faces and these stories when we printed this verse on our new court in The Pyramid.  That is our heritage, and that is what we want our legacy for the future to be.  We want our students to use their passion to make a difference in this world for Jesus Christ.  We want their passions to collide with their faith.

We desire to start a movement in our department here at Calvary.  Will you help us?  This movement means we would like to ask you to reply to this post on your social media page while using the hashtag #WarriorImpact.  Start with this statement:  “I am joining a Calvary University Warrior movement by answering the question, ‘What have I seen God do recently in my ministry or in my life?’”  Then take the opportunity to testify online and tell your followers what you have seen God accomplish.  As your stories unfold, we will know more about what God is doing all over the US and world through this amazing group we call Calvary Warriors.  Will you help us start this #WarriorImpact movement today?

Sincerely,

Jeanette Regier

In Honor of Kameron Wiebe and God’s Faithfulness

In Honor of Kameron Wiebe and God’s Faithfulness

Kameron Wiebe came from Whitewater, Kansas, to the campus of Calvary University in 2015 in search of learning biblical truth. Mediocrity was never the solution for him as he desired to take possession of his beliefs and make his faith his own.  His expectations were high, as he was the last of five siblings belonging to Lyle and Lenora Wiebe to attend Calvary.

When people asked Kameron why he came to Calvary he would humbly reply, “To have a better understanding of the Bible.” Kameron chose to enroll at Calvary because he realized that, like all other Christians, he needed to grow in his own faith.  Kameron was never one to be satisfied with half-hearted answers, and the solid teaching at Calvary was what he needed and desired.  During his two years at Calvary he received stellar teaching, and those closest to him saw the growth that occurred in Kameron’s spiritual life. Many of the questions he had were answered through “rightly divided truth” in the classroom.

In daily conversations about faith, he communicated first-hand how his questions were being answered and his faith was becoming stronger.  He once told his expected fiancé Tasha, “If God is for us, we can get through anything!”  He wanted nothing more than to keep God in the center and to deepen his commitment to the Lord while at Calvary University.  Kameron lived out his faith with quietness and confidence, and this could not help but inspire others to want to follow his example. His pondering soon turned to confidence, and his walk with the Lord quickly turned into a run!

We did not realize how soon Kameron would finish his race here on earth.  He and his cousin, Caleb Neal, were ushered into God’s presence on June 30, 2017, as a result of a car accident (just 6 weeks after finishing his 2nd year at Calvary). The tragedy impacted the campus of Calvary University in major ways as Kameron’s impact became his lasting legacy to the students, staff, and faculty of Calvary University.

This tragedy has also allowed our Calvary family to have the opportunity to watch the community of Whitewater, Kansas, become the hands and feet of Jesus as they have loved, prayed, and supported the entire Wiebe family and Tasha through this year of pain and uncertainty.  This special community came together to give memorial gifts to help Calvary University purchase a new floor for The Pyramid Athletic Center where Kameron played college basketball.  The graphic on the floor states “In Honor of Kameron Wiebe and God’s Faithfulness.”  Today we celebrate God’s faithfulness that has been so evident throughout the past year.  We thank God for His church and how they have been the picture of 1 Corinthians 12:27 this year in Whitewater, Kansas.  We thank God for the lives that Kameron and Caleb led and the legacy that resulted.  We thank God that He continues to choose to use Calvary to impact college students with biblical truth that will change the world.

Calvary is grateful for input from Lyle and Lenora Wiebe, Tasha Krahn, and Luke Pauli in writing this article.
